RE:  Walker Disc Golf Park Officially Opens

On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Walker Disc Golf Park officially opened with city officials, the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce, sponsors, stakeholders and disc golf enthusiasts. The course is part of the City of Walker’s Park system and is located behind Walker City Hall at 13600 Aydell Lane, Walker, LA.  The park has been under construction since 2023 and opened for play in May of 2025.

The city acquired the 18-acre track intending to enhance their current park system and add a disc golf park. Disc golf has gained popularity worldwide since the pandemic.  UDisc, the popular app for disc golf enthusiasts, reports over 20 million rounds are played annually, an increase over the previous year.

The city sought a partnership with the Chamber’s Leadership Livingston Program for this project.  The city had worked with the chamber on two other substantial projects in the city, the Challengers’ Ball Field for special needs athletes and the First Responders Monument.  Both of those projects had been enhanced beyond the original plans and the community benefited from the collaboration.

Class members of the Leadership Livingston program are assigned groups who are tasked with a project to not only enhance our local community, but also to learn firsthand what it takes to complete a positive project.  One of the project groups was offered the option to work on the park and adopted the project.

The group raised over $40,000.00 through the contributions of 50 sponsors.  Funds for the project were administered through the Livingston Chamber Foundation, the charitable arm of the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce.  All funds are dedicated directly to the project.

Contributions were used to fund the course design, baskets and concrete tees and other enhancements for the course.  The course design took in the natural features of the land.  World class course designer, Avery Jenkins, was brought in to design the course after the introduction was made through the chamber’s online reach and social platforms, another added benefit of the partnership.

The city coordinated all phases of the project from the land development to the landscaping to the final phase of completion.  They added restroom facilities, and there are plans to add a pro shop.  The park is open during daylight hours and is available for play at no charge.

The course already has nearly 100 reviews on UDisc, an app for disc golfers to identify and rate courses for play.  The course has a 4.9 out of a possible 5, a substantial rating considering the course is brand new.   The first tournament was held on May 31 the day after the ribbon cutting.
