John Blount Awarded Inaugural Community Leadership Award

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD | John Blount | Litter Free Lp

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, John Blount was named the inaugural recipient of the Livingston Parish Community Leadership Award.  The award was created to recognize business leaders who take the initiative and opportunity to lead on projects that benefit and make the parish better.  The award was presented to John by Candy Forbes, 2019 Chamber Board Chair.  "John sets the bar for where we should all hope to achieve in care and action in our community.  He has taken his actions to the next level and has engaged a diverse group of people to be a part of the parish wide effort to bring awareness and action to the litter impacts in our parish." states Candy Forbes.

With drainage and litter being two of the top five concerns of citizens in Livingston Parish, the actions of the litter initiative are imperative.  States April Wehrs, Chamber President, "We can all have the thoughts of what would make things better.  Going the next step and actually taking action is the only way to make it happen.  It has been my pleasure to work with John on this timely and needed project.  We can all attest, it has not been easy to come as far as we have, but with each progress we see a changing attitude and culture.  We could not have done that without John's leadership."

In 2018, John Blount was Livingston Parish Chamber Board Chair when he initiated conversation on litter at the Annual Meeting.  His vision was to engage the business community through the chamber by having a strong parish wide organization determine actions they could take.  Fast forward to today where 3 litter full parish litter pick up days have taken place with hundreds of volunteers and thousands of trash items removed.  The main premise of the campaign is the positive marketing and engaging everyone in the community to be aware and take advantage of the opportunities and programming provided through the grassroots efforts of the chamber.
