Livingston Parish Chamber Endorses Constitutional Amendment 2

**Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce Endorses Constitutional Amendment 2 on March 29, 2025 Ballot**

After thorough review, the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce supports Constitutional Amendment 2, citing its benefits for citizens and businesses. The amendment aims to simplify Louisiana’s complex tax system, limit growth on government, cap the income tax rate and double the exemption for seniors.

A key factor in the Chamber’s support is the potential for Amendment 2 to improve Louisiana’s competitive standings, not only other southern states, but on a national level.  The state has historically ranked at the bottom in multiple areas, but recent legislative actions during special sessions have elevated its position.  Passage of this amendment is expected to further boost Louisiana’s rankings by creating a more streamlined and competitive tax structure.

The Chamber also backs the amendment for its potential to alleviate burdens like inventory tax, a tax levied annually on the value of a business’s unsold goods, materials, or equipment. This repetitive tax on inventory-purchased items penalizes businesses of all sizes.  Amendment 2 offers parishes the opportunity to reduce or eliminate this tax, easing financial pressures and supporting business growth.

Deric Murphy, Board Chair of the Livingston Parish Chamber, states, “Running a business is challenging and any opportunity to streamline required filings and compliance is a plus.  This will alleviate a lot of pressure off every business from the micro, small shop to larger employers.”
Chamber President April Wehrs adds, “The business community supports the state’s efforts to make Louisiana more competitive, not just regionally but nationally.  Seeing our state ranking climbing in the charts in gratifying.  This amendment will propel it to the next phase.  In addition, Livingston Parish will be in a unique position to capitalize positively with the passing of this amendment.”
