About Us
The Sweat Dreams Fund
For our group project, we created The Sweat Dreams Fund - an initiative focused on addressing a critical need in our local community: access to beds for children and families in crisis.
We partnered with The Family Village (TFV) in Walker, Louisiana, a nonprofit organization that serves as a vital resource hub for families in need. TFV supports the community by providing essentials such as beds, clothing, school uniforms, and connections to helpful services, working closely with child welfare agencies to assist children and families in vulnerable situations.
After discussions with TFV leadership, it became clear that beds were one of the most pressing needs. Many children entering foster care or being placed with family members or fictive kin are unable to stay in a home simply because there isn't a proper bed available. This not only delays placement but can also lead to children entering other care settings unnecessarily.
Our group set out with a goal to raise $10,000, which would fund approximately 50 beds for children and families in need. Through outreach and community partnerships, we were able to more than double our goal, raising over $21,000.
This incredible outpouring of support will allow The Family Village to provide more than 100 beds, helping ensure that children can be placed in safe, loving homes often with relatives rather than in alternate care settings due to a lack of basic resources.
Group 1: Duane Black, Lauren Crow, Lisa Frey, Grace Kennedy, Jessica Perault, Shane Rogers, Kayla Rogers, and Hailey Russell.
