She works with several community organizations including the Carter Plantation Historical Society, the Livingston Parish Fair Committee, A Door of Hope, Livingston Council on Aging, The Foster Village and Mighty Moms. In addition, she also works with the Registrar of Voters for Livingston Parish. From when her children were small to now, she taught them to help and give to others and now they drop off cards, send flowers or offer a helping hand to those in need. She is currently writing a book and plans to finish it next year.

Advancement of Women | Overcoming Challenges
Being a single mother of three and an educator was often challenging for her, but she made it through with positive thoughts and messaging. She calls everyone sunshine, but all who know her know she is the one who shines the positive.
On Women’s Leadership in Livingston Parish, she believes women should band together to move leadership forward. She also believes in seeking out women who are optimistic to make sure we are enhancing our communities.

About the Livingston Parish Women's Leadership Award - the award was founded by the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce in 2017 to coincide with the Women's Leadership Programming and Event.  Since then, the award criteria continues to adjust to today's women.  The criteria for the award includes professional - career accomplishments, community actions and involvement with collective efforts, mentoring of other females, women and a desire to continue and elevate women's programming in Livingston Parish.  For more information, contact April Wehrs at the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce.
